There are plenty of budget hotels near Waikiki Beach. However, you may find yourself annoyed with the barebones amenities and the rooms may be a bit too cramped for your liking. However, if you do have a more generous budget then you may want to pay attention to this Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort review. This may be the hotel for you.

Features

Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort is directly on the beach, which is truly convenient if the beach is your main reason for going to Waikiki in the first place. The neighborhood of the hotel is rather quieter, as it’s located on the western side of Waikiki. But it sure is near lots of dining and shopping spots.

Inside the hotel, the rooms are nicely spacious. That’s because they cut down the number of rooms here in 2009, so they now have fewer but bigger rooms. There’s cocktail hour entertainment along with daily activities like ukulele playing and hula dancing.

It’s recommended that you pay the “Waikiki Connection Fee” at $30 per day, since this gets you Wi-Fi for 3 devices per room. The fee also gets you various convenient amenities like a local newspaper, 2 daily bottles of water, phone calls (including international calls) up to an hour daily, and unlimited rides to the downtown area. This fee also gives you freebies and discounts for numerous attractions as well as to more than 40 retailers in the area.

The amenities include a large swimming pool, a whirlpool, a nicely appointed 24/7 fitness center, a spa, and even a small business center. There are meeting rooms and catering services. Various Hawaiian cultural activities can be enjoyed daily, and guests can also have the exclusive Hawaiian vow renewal ceremony performed.

There’s self-laundry service as well as same-day laundry and dry cleaning service. Parking is valet only, and it comes with a daily $35 fee.

Inside the hotel, you can enjoy the 3 restaurants so you won’t have to go far for a nice meal. There’s also a Starbucks here in the hotel, which should please finicky coffee drinkers.

Right outside the hotel, there are numerous shops and tourist attractions for you to explore. You really ought to get the Waikiki connection fee to enjoy all the discounts. With lots of shopping, you can actually enjoy greater savings than the cost of the fee. Still, you can just step out the hotel and the beach is right there right in your backyard.

Pros

  • The rooms are spacious and nicely outfitted.
  • There are plenty of restaurants inside the hotel, and Starbucks is always a good option too.
  • The place also offers a gym, a spa, and a swimming pool. There’s also a convenient ATM machine here too—you’re going to need it to pay for some of the amenities!
  • Lots of shops are also nearby.
  • The beach is right outside the hotel.

Cons

  • The fees can pile up, if you haven’t noticed.
  • The hotel employees are competent, but you really won’t call them overly friendly.

Verdict

If you need a place that offers lots of amenities you may need for your vacation, then the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort may just be for you. You have a bit more space, more amenities, more shops and restaurants nearby, and the beach is right there!
